// ABOUT KICKERSHOE
EVERY SHOE HAS A STORY
We're a growing archive of fictional shoe-origin comics — invented characters, real design DNA, one shared universe.
// WHAT WE DO
WE TELL THE STORIES SNEAKERS DON'T
Every legendary shoe has an origin story nobody tells you — the version smoothed into two clean lines of marketing copy, or lost entirely. KICKERSHOE exists to tell the other version.
We build a shared universe of fictional shoe-origin comics: motion-comic issues where an invented character — an animal, always an underdog — lives through the exact kind of broken-leg, robbed-shoe, underestimated moment that (unofficially, unaffiliated, entirely made up) explains how a real shoe silhouette came to exist.
Part comic anthology. Part alternate-history sneaker museum. Part shared fictional universe anyone can add a file to.
Every panel is written backwards from the shoe: we start with a real silhouette's most iconic detail — a spring, a stud plate, a suture — and build an entire animal, an entire underdog season, and an entire heartbreak to explain how it had to exist. The design earns its shine last, never first.
// HOW THE LORE WORKS
ONE UNIVERSE, EVERY RIVAL CONNECTED
Each issue follows one character's origin — Issue 001's mantis, Issue 002's goat, Issue 003's elephant, Issue 004's goldfish — but none of them exist in isolation. The bull who nearly ended the goat's career in Issue 002 doesn't disappear when the credits roll. He shows up at the workbench the next morning and helps design the boot.
That's the rule every issue is written by: today's antagonist is tomorrow's collaborator, and every rival is a future protagonist waiting for their own file to be declassified.
The designs themselves borrow real DNA — a spring-loaded high-top, a mantis-green cleat, a gold-and-black F50 — read as loving, unofficial homages to real shoe lineages, not the real thing. More on exactly what that means in the fine print below.
Every issue also hides one more thing: a real, very famous athlete's fingerprint on the design, buried in that issue's Lore section as a "declassified" notebook entry — a stance, a hang-time, a phrase circled four times. We're not going to spoil which four. Read the field notes at the bottom of each issue and decide for yourself whether the resemblance is coincidence.
// THE CAST
MEET THE UNIVERSE
-
THE MANTIS
Born in the wet grass, mocked for nine seasons before he ever touched a ball. His broken leg — and the exo-mesh boot built to protect it — started everything.
READ ISSUE 001 → -
THE GOAT
Too small for the weight class, too relentless to stay down. The rival he flattened in the final round became the designer standing next to him.
READ ISSUE 002 → -
THE ELEPHANT
Too heavy to jump, too stubborn to quit. His mother's spring-loaded fix got stolen once — and copied by everyone else ever since.
READ ISSUE 003 → -
THE GOLDFISH
Never said a word, never needed to. One calm fish steadied a man mid-storm — and got a whole shoe built in its memory.

YOUR CHARACTER COULD BE NEXT
KICKERSHOE keeps growing the same way every good shared universe does — one contributor, one rival, one shoe at a time. If you've got a character, a shoe, or a grudge that deserves its own file, the newsletter is where new issues — and open invitations to pitch one — get announced first.

NOT AFFILIATED
ENTRY 01IS ANY OF THIS REAL?+
No. Every mantis, elephant, and goat in this universe is fictional. Their creators, their rivalries, and their "unofficial" origin stories are invented for entertainment.
ENTRY 02ARE YOU AFFILIATED WITH ANY REAL BRAND?+
No. Any resemblance to real shoe silhouettes, brand names, or design lineage — and any "hidden inspiration" entries in the lore files that sound suspiciously like a real athlete — is homage, parody, and speculation, not affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement by any real company or person.
ENTRY 03CAN I USE THESE CHARACTERS?+
Reach out first. This is a shared universe, not a free-for-all — but we're always open to new files.
